A collection of resources aimed at short, mid, and long-term support amid the ongoing wildfires.

Inevitable Foundation Los Angeles wildfires list of recovery resources and support services.

We understand that like all disabled people affected by climate catastrophe, Hollywood’s disabled creative community is facing surmounting challenges that affect their safety and livelihoods.

Below are a list of resources to support impacted disabled screenwriters and filmmakers with both their immediate and long-term needs.

Inevitable Foundation has also re-opened our Emergency Relief Fund in light of the fires, and applications for cash grants are now open for disabled writers and filmmakers.

Financial Assistance

Motion Picture & Television Fund

Provides financial assistance, supportive counseling, and support navigating insurance needs for current and retired members of the entertainment community. Also provides assistance with navigating county, state, and federal resources for victims of the fires.

Entertainment Community Fund

Financial assistance and emergency grants, as well as grief and mental health counseling, support groups, housing and healthcare aid can be accessed through the client portal. 

CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort)

Beginning Jan. 15, the nonprofit is stationed at the Disaster Resource Center at 3035 E. Foothill Blvd in Pasadena, where those affected can apply for federal assistance and for CORE’s cash assistance program.  

Directors Guild Foundation/Motion Picture Television Fund Emergency Relief Fund

Emergency grants of $1,000 to members of the guild who were affected by the wildfires. 

Directors Guild Foundation Loan Program

Interest-free short-term loans. Standard loans are for members experiencing short term financial hardship and emergency loans are for those affected by medical emergencies, natural disasters and more. 

Writers Guild of America West’s Member Fund

Members who have lost their homes or been displaced by the wildfires in a short or long-term capacity can contact the guild and get connected with the ECF, which administers WGAW grants. 

WGAW Good and Welfare Emergency Assistance Loans

Current guild members in good standing and post-current members experiencing acute need can request support.

Housing Assistance

Airbnb/211 LA Temporary Housing Assistance

Free, temporary housing for residents who have been displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires after either losing their home or being forced to evacuate the Altadena, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, Pasadena, Santa Monica and Sylmar areas.

Zello

Headquarters across from Warner Brother Studios have been repurposed into an Infrastructure Support Center offering assistance with home furnishings, free secure storage containers, and a 30-acre temporary housing community with motorhomes and travel trailers along I-5.

Open Shelters

A real-time list of open emergency shelters with accessibility services available on-site through staff, via email and phone.

Food Assistance

Food pantries, banks and meal distribution services are available to those affected by the wildfires

CalFresh Disaster Assistance

Offers immediate food assistance to those impacted by natural disasters, with up to $292 a month per person in a household via an EBT card, which can be used to purchase food at authorized grocery stores and farmer’s markets.

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank

Use the finder tool on their website to locate a nearby food pantry or mobile distribution center, where you can access emergency food kits including fresh produce, shelf-stable items, and essential supplies.

World Central Kitchen Meal Distribution Sites

Free hot meals to the public at locations in Southern California.

LA Restaurants Offering Food Relief

The Dream Center

Distributing nonperishable foods Monday through Saturday.

Personal Care 

Planet Fitness

Any Planet Fitness location in LA County that is currently open is offering free access to showers, massage chairs, locker rooms, and WiFi through the end of January to residents who have been displaced.

The Y is also offering showers, wifi, charging stations, and essential items.

The Dream Center

Offering protective gear (work gloves, safety goggles, protective coveralls), along with other necessities like certain clothing, toiletries, air purifiers, baby wipes and diapers.

Disability & Health Resources

Disability Disaster Access and Resources (DDAR) Program

Get connected with centers and resources that can help you with costs and support during a public safety power shutoff. That includes accessible transportation, short-term housing support, and loaner back-up battery system for those who rely on power to operate life-sustaining medical devices like CPAP, BiPAP, oxygen, communication device, or power wheelchair. 

Off-The-Grid Missions Support Services

Provides essential relief supplies to the great Deaf (Deaf, Deaf-Blind, Deaf-Disabled, Hard of Hearing, etc.) community and their families, including those with disabilities, affected by the wildfires in L.A. Support includes replacing damaged, lost, or destroyed items, along with clothing, food, pet food, and personal hygiene support.

Augmentative and Alternative Communication Disaster Relief

Responds to nationally declared disasters on behalf of USSAAC members, people who use AAC, their families, and other AAC stakeholders by working collaboratively with other organizations to replace AAC tools and devices that are lost or damaged because of a nationally declared disaster. Covered items include speech-generating devices, access switches, device mounting systems, communication boards and books, AAC device batteries and chargers.

The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies Disability & Disaster Hotline

A disability-led resource supporting disabled disaster survivors, their families, and allies before, during and after an event. The hotline provides accessible and actionable information, referral resources, and technical assistance around a range of issues and needs including: urgent response referrals; prevention of institutionalization during and after disasters; disability rights; evacuation; transportation; temporary sheltering; alternatives to medical sheltering and voluntary registries; health maintenance and care access; accommodations in disasters; repair, replacement and loaned medical equipment, supplies and assistive devices; returning to home, school, work, and community after a disaster, and more. 

Disaster Distress Helpline

A resource for crisis counselling when in disaster distress, with additional support services like coping tips, referrals for additional follow-up care, and information on how to recognize distress in other individuals.

Licensed clinical social workers can provide support for youth and families affected by the fires.

The People Place LA

On Saturday, Jan. 18, impacted families can stop by between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. PT to stock up on relevant supplies, from diapers and wipes, formula, children’s clothes and toiletries to breastfeeding pumps and supplies, baby gear (strollers, travel cribs, carriers), and baby monitors.

BabywearingLA

The volunteer led community organization for babywearing and baby carrier education is offering to replace carriers lost due to the fires.

YMCA

All locations are providing no-cost childcare for families who were displaced, evacuated or lost property, or who cannot attend school because their school has closed for the day. Children must be at least 4 years and 9 months old to attend the program. Doors are also open to teens 12-18 years old. Those without a teen membership with the LA YMCA can have a parent or legal guardian submit a waiver.

Residential Air Filtration Program Aims to reduce residential exposure to particulate matter (PM) by providing air filtration units and replacement filters in participating communities, which includes East Los Angeles, Boyle Heights, West Commerce, and Eastern Coachella Valley.

Housing Rights Center 

The nation’s largest non-profit fair housing organization can assist you if you believe you are facing discrimination, including in short-term housing like motels, hotels, and emergency shelters.
